Break Out Characters
Break out characters are very common in cartoons and comics, a good example would be The Simpsons, the show was originally centered around Bart, but as the show progressed, Homer became the break out character that took them to the top. In most cases, the break out character is more popular than the main character and can help push that cartoon and/or comic to heights that the creator never imagined. These characters can be anything from a person, to a dog, a cat, a car, etc. These typically are supporting characters, but they make a significant impact on the cartoon and comic.
